Does a software firewall interfere with Smedge operation?

Yes.

Make sure to open up or disable your software firewall to allow Smedge 3 component applications to communicate with each other. The Master listens on port 6870 by default, but all ports are dynamically assigned by the system.

If you are using Windows Firewall, this is normally handled automatically by the installer. However, if you need to manually configure your firewall, there is a batch file that you can run in the Utilities folder of your Smedge 3 installation called OpenSmedgeFirewall.bat that can be used as a command line utility to open the firewall.

Type OpenSmedgeFirewall into a Command Prompt window to get instructions for using OpenSmedgeFirewall to open or close Windows Firewall.
