The Windows port of the next build of Smedge is now ready.

This version is a huge improvement over all previous versions. We recommend all users upgrade as soon as possible. All major bugs identified in all previous versions have been addressed. Memory usage has been decreased by almost 90%. Network usage has decreased by as much as 90%. Stability and performance have increased dramatically.

The Linux port will be coming shortly.

Important notice about beta 5 December 15, 2006
Hello everyone.

We recently discovered an issue that will affect everyone running the Smedge 3 version 2.0 beta 5, on both Windows and Linux. This version of Smedge 3 will expire as of January 1, 2007. What does this mean? If the program is running when the new year passes, and stays running, there will be no issue at all. It will continue to run as long as the program is running on the computer. However, if the program terminates, it will not allow you to restart it, and will log a "beta version expired" message in the History.log file.

This issue affects every Smedge component application on both Windows and Linux. We will have a simple fix, to replace the SmedgeLib.dll or libsmedge.so library file with a version compiled witout the expiration date. We recommend doing this before January 1, 2007, in order to ensure that your system keeps working normally into the new year.

This problem does not affect any other aspect of Smedge operation. The updated version of the files will put online over the weekend. Keep your eyes peeled for another announcement with information about how to download it.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Also, the next version, beta 6, is almost ready. The Windows version is running incredibly well, and we are almost done updating the Linux version. We should be making it available by the middle of next week.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Thank you
-robin

Our ISP had enabled a very strict anti-spam policy that disabled the ability to send emails. It is fixed now, and you should be able to recover your password normally now.

Please let us know if you have any trouble accessing your account.

Smedge 3 version 2.0.0 beta 5 Available! September 25, 2006
Beta 5 fixes the Engine restriction times bug (the restriction times were being calculated as if you were in GMT, instead of local time). It also adds the commandline Shells for Linux, so you can actally have a completely Linux only environment.

We are still in progress on porting the Gui, so keep your eyes peeled.

Smedge on Linux September 11, 2006
Smedge is now ready to start beta testing on Linux. Currently, the Master, the Engine, and the Modules ave all been ported. The Shell programs are not yet available, but will be coming soon.

The new Smedge is totally cross platform compatible. You can have the Master running on either Windows or Linux, and the Engines running on either Windows or Linux, and see and control it all from the Shells. You can even have a heterogenous network with some Engines running under Linux and some under Windows.

The new beta of Smedge for Windows is also available. The only reason that Smedge on Windows is considered "beta" is because the internal interface and data structures may change if there are problems on Linux that have yet to be discovered. Other than that, the new Windows version is the most stable and reliable yet, with some really big bug fixes that many Windows only users may want to take advantage of.

I'm planning on releasing the new builds on Wednesday morning. I'm posting the news now, so that any users interested in testing Smedge on Linux can contact me and I can assemble a beta team. If you have any questions, please contact me at beta@uberware.net.

There is a new Maya.ini file available for download that adds support for the finalRender for Maya renderer. To use, simply download and copy the Maya.ini file into the Smedge/Modules folder on your machines, and then have Smedge rescan the Modules (or restart it). Please let us know if you have any questions about this new Product.
