By default, on Windows the Smedge 3 Installer will create a user account on the local machine (username Smedge and password Smedge) to use to run the Engine Service. Some systems have more strict user account requirements, for example, more strict password requirements. In these cases, the user account cannot be added with the default password, and the Engine Service will not be installed correctly.
The good news is that the SmedgeEngine program file is available, and you can get running quickly by just double clicking the SmedgeEngine.exe program file from Windows Explorer. To use SmedgeEngine as a Service, you need to supply a user account with the correct settings for your security context.
Two common ways to create user accounts are to use the User Accounts Control Panel, or to use the CreateSmedgeUser.bat file (in the Utilities folder of your Smedge 3 installation). The batch file should be called from a command prompt window, and takes 2 parameters: the user account name and the password. It will create a local Administrator account, and give that account all the required permissions to run the SmedgeEngine service. If you are using a Domain Server, you can add the account to the domain using your domain administration tools.
The easiest way to assign the user account to the Service is to run the installer again, and specify the user account name and password on the Options page.
