Can I submit a Job from Windows and have it execute on Linux?

Yes.

Smedge operation is completely seamless across platforms. The only thing you need to do is to set up the automatic path translations that allows Smedge to make sure that the files associated with your Job can be found on each platform. Follow these steps to set up automatic path translations:

  1. If you're not already in Administrator Mode, select System > Administrator Mode
  2. Select System > System Commands > Configure Master
  3. Click on the Path Translations tab.
  4. Use this editor to create your translations. Smedge performs a "Root" translation on the files, changing the first part of the filename depending on which platform. This system will only work if your machines all access the same files in the end, even if they are accessed in different ways.

For example, you may have a mapped network drive on Windows, with a path like "J:\Projects\scenes\myScene.mb". On Linux, you may need to access this same file via an NFS mounted folder like "/usr/jobs/Projects/scenes/myScene.mb"

In this example, you would use the following roots in the editor to have automatic path translation occur:
    WindowsLinux
    J:/usr/jobs

Smedge will always convert the directory delimiters (e.g., / and \) to the correct format for the local platform when a path is used.

  5. Click OK to have the translations you configure sent to the system.
